The Northern Advocate Business Hall of Fame Inductees sought

Northland Excellence Awards Business Hall of Fame

Nominations are now open for 2021 The Northern Advocate Business Hall of Fame Inductee.

Rachel Ward, Editor of the Northern Advocate says The Northern Advocate Business Hall of Fame is designed to recognise those who have, during their business career, demonstrated service to their industry and to the greater Northland community.

The winner will be announced at the NorthChamber Northland Business Excellence Awards on October 29.

Ms Ward says she is looking forward to seeing what stand-out businesses are put forward. “NZME remains committed to backing the Northland Business Excellence Awards,” says Ms Ward. “The reason we support NorthChamber is because of the work they do to support business which is critical for business growth in Northland. We want to celebrate the best and we see the awards as something aspirational for business people who are able to reside in Northland and compete in markets nationally and internationally.”

Separate to The Northern Advocate Business Hall of Fame Inductee, Ms Ward believes the awards are really important for the region. “If people use the Baldridge entry criteria properly, it allows them to have a really close look at their business, see if they are on track and work out how they can continue to grow.”

And Ms Ward says it is equally important that businesses don’t consider an awards entry as a one off activity. “We have seen so many times over the years where businesses don’t succeed the first time but enter in following years and achieve immense success – including taking out the Supreme Champion title.”

NorthChamber CEO Steve Smith says too often business people – in particular successful business people – often go without the recognition they deserve. “In New Zealand we see great profiling sporting heroes and public servants. What I am proud of is that The Northern Advocate, NorthChamber and Northland’s business community are prepared to recognise the efforts of individual business people,” says Mr Smith. “Those very people are actually the fuel that keeps the economy running. Business people through their individual efforts risk capital, provide jobs, and oil the wheels of the economy and that’s critical to the social and economic wellbeing of Northland.

“Just look at our 2020 Inductee – Sandra McKersey – her impact on Northland over the decades has been selfless and immense. She is a true leader and there are plenty more out there so we want them nominated.”
